The Prosperity Campaign A Win/Win/Win Proposition! With your help, the Prosperity Campaign can bring hundreds of millions of dollars into the local economy and add as much as $4,536 per year to the income of thousands of entry-level working families in Miami-Dade County! It is simply a matter of helping workers with annual household income of less than $39,000 to claim the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) when they file their federal income tax return. This is a win/win/win proposition: Employers win by helping their employees take home more pay at no cost to the employer. Employees win because they can substantially increase their income. And our economy wins by the boost it receives from the federal dollars that will be spent and invested here by low-income workers who receive these refundable credits. Estimates suggest that as much as $300,000,000 went unclaimed last year in Miami-Dade County. The goals of the Prosperity Campaign are to increase the number of workers in Miami-Dade County claiming the refundable federal EITC in the upcoming tax season, to develop the financial education of these workers, and to enhance their ability to build assets by linking them to financial institutions and asset development programs. The Prosperity Campaign is working with community volunteers, and community-based and faith-based organizations to staff and house free tax preparation services at many sites within the County. The IRS is training these volunteers to become certified federal income tax preparers. The Campaign will file tax returns electronically and encourage taxpayers to open bank accounts so that they can have refunds deposited directly. Employers who want to help their employees obtain the EITC should refer their human resources staff to IRS Publication 596, which can be found at www.irs.gov. Employers and others who want to volunteer to help prepare income tax returns should contact Leidy Carrazana at 305-576-5001, extension 46. We welcome your help.
