Doral Shares Tips on Making Tax Time Easy for Employees

Every tax season there’s a mad scramble to gather receipts, document expenses and figure how to fill out complicated income tax forms.

For the employees at the Doral Golf Resort and Spa, those anxious moments have been eliminated thanks to one-on-one sessions with IRS certified tax preparers.

None of the 1100 full and part-time employees have to leave work to get their taxes done. The personal tax preparation is free to staffers and comes at no extra cost to the hotel either.

“We have a large associate base. We need to proactively meet their needs because they work a lot of hours and on weekends too,” said Annie Borges, the director of human resources for the resort. “We bring in the experts and make sure they have the latest information so they get what’s owed to them at no cost.”

All Borges and her staff do is call their local IRS office to schedule an appointment. The HR staff promotes the service using payroll stuffers, email blasts, bulletin board announcements and newsletter updates in the Doral Daily News, an employee publication.

“By the time the IRS arrives, our employees knows that to bring and are well prepared,” Borges said.

During other times of the year, the HR staff offers health fairs and even brings in Miami-Dade County government representatives to help employees with other needs and services.

Said Borges, “They don’t have to pay anything and we make sure they get the information they need first hand.”
